NISYRIO welcomed this year again the Aegean Rebreath team for an intense weekend in order to continue cleaning the seabed of the island. 12 volunteers of Aegean Rebreath along with the NISYRIO team, the Coast guard and locals we implemented underwater cleaning at Palloi marina, Pergousa islet and Yali siland. The experts of Aegean Rebreath realized sediment sampling from the marina and microplastic from Yali in order to be able to get specific evaluation facts.

RECORDED DATA 2020-2021 – 2 TONS:

UNDERWATER – 540 pieces of plastic (10cm to 5m), 140 kilos of fishing nets, 65 mixed up coils of fishing lines, 34 weels, 89 fabric pieces (mainly clothes), 182metallic objects (20cm to 5m), 72 glass objects, 3.5 large bags of shredded plastic & bags

COASTAL – 2.375 plastic pieces (10cm to 5m), 20 kilos of fishing nets, 15 fabric pieces (mainly clothes), 64 metallic objects (20cm to 5m), 30 glass objects, 16,5 large bags of shredded plastic and plastic bags

Our goal is to completely clean the seabed of the island next year and focus on burdened Yali.
