NISYRIO participates in the European Week For Waste Reduction. During this week NISYRIO aims to reuse the waste wheels of the island in order to change them into playground toys and colourful pots to decorate the surrounding area of the new playground of the island. NISYRIO team will work together with the parents of the nursery kids to prepare, paint and install the wheels in the area of the playground. In the second phase, the kids along with the teachers will plant all the pots.

Wheels & Colours action is part of “PLAY” program which refers to the recollection of plastic waste from all Nisyrian countryside with the participation and help of the residents. Eventually, the gathered plastic waste will be processed in recycling and reusing practices, in laboratories and/or playful games (for younger children), resulting in the production of a children’s playground and design furniture to be placed, wherever needed, in public areas. It is a program aiming directly to children of 6 up to 18 years old, thus, having an indirect impact on their families and local society in general. The action is based on the upcycling philosophy with the simplicity of collecting a certain kind of waste and changing it into a useful decorative object and playground toy.

The PLAY program was initiated in June with the aim to be completed by the end of 2021 with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.
